Minutes
North Quabbin EnergyAttending: Don Audet, Pat Larson, Cathy Stanton
This brief meeting was held before the showing of "The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil"
AnnouncementsFall and future movies
There were 17 people at the showing of
"Kilowatt Ours" in North Orange on Sept. 20. We had a good
discussion afterward. Pat proposed a couple of possible future films:
"Escape from Suburbia" (a
follow-up to
"The End of Suburbia," which we showed in 2005) and
"Lovejoy's Nuclear War."
Energy expo
Pat and Cathy met with the North Quabbin Chamber of Commerce and we have set a date for the combined
North Quabbin Home Show and Energy Expo: March 29 and 30, 2008. The plan is to have a long day on
Saturday and a shorter one on Sunday (perhaps 10 to 6 on Saturday and noon to 4 on Sunday). The
Energy Expo segment will be held in the Athol High School cafeteria, with the main Home Show in the
gym and hallway. Booths will cost $99 for the whole weekend. There is a planning meeting on
Thursday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Chamber office (512 Main Street in Athol). Cathy will contact
Tom Rich to get the word out to the Energy Expo vendors about the date and cost. We need to start
talking to NQE people who have expressed interest in working on this project, and begin our own
planning meetings as well as coordinating with the Chamber. We talked about the possibilities for
programming and education. The NQE booth could be the site for this, or we may try to get access
to a classroom space for part of the time. Cathy will work on this.
MREC building projects
We have obtained a copy of the MREC electric bill (although there was some confusion about interpreting
it!) and Brian Nugent has contacted National Grid about setting up an audit at a date to be
determined.
Other business
In the discussion following the film (which 14 people attended), the possibility was raised of
showing "The Power of Community" on AOTV. Cathy will investigate the copyright issues on this.
Next meeting
Thursday, Nov. 8, 7 p.m. at the Millers River Environmental Center.
